SADE’S FIRST EXHIBIT

“Sade’s First Exhibit” was held in April 2023 to celebrate Sadé’s body of work thus far in conjunction with the milestone of her birthday. The pieces featured included a grid wall of her signature Chibi characters inspired by Japanese anime shows such as Attack On Titan and Naruto Shippuden and music artists like Nipsey Hussle, Drake, Billie Eilish and more. Additionally, nine larger illustrations were exhibited of Sadé’s “Morbid Maidens”. These are portraits of women, often drawn with only a head and hands or busts, that combine vibrant colour schemes and beauty with provocative imagery.

The event featured performances by local alternative R&B artist Jaymar (@jayvvar) and genre-bending singer/rapper JR (@jrdaisuki) as well as sounds by DJ Peameal (@peamealbacon). Refreshments curtesy of Redbull Canada and COPS doughnuts.

Sadé plans to put on similar events in the future in order to feature other queer and/or marginalized artists with similar styles and feature music artists within the community.
